Par apmācībām:
This three-day course is designed for physical and occupational therapists, and speech language pathologists and assistants who currently work or desire to work in the field of therapy for children who present with alignment challenges of the trunk from a variety of sources; neurological such as movement disorders, musculoskeletal such as adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, weakness, and asymmetry. Information includes the assessment and treatment of children with scoliosis, kyphosis, and/or hyper-lordosis impacting their functional activities and/or their ability to participate in both peer-aged group functions and family activities/participation. Emphasis will be on experiential learning on adult peers in lab followed by assessment and treatment of infants and children in small groups under supervision with musculoskeletal trunk mal-alignment.
Objectives:
At the completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:
1. Explain the Framework for the NDTA TM Contemporary Practice Model as it relates to assessing and treating children with neurological and musculoskeletal challenges.
2. Describe and apply trunk assessment techniques to children you see in
practicum.
3. Identify components of effective trunk alignment in weight bearing and how to promote this alignment for functional skills in the acquisition of participatory skills.
4. Differentiate at least 10 treatment techniques useful in functional skill attainment in vertical that are appropriate for a variety of children with neuromuscular and/or musculoskeletal challenge on another adult in lab.
5. Describe and explain at least 5 treatment strategies useful in the treatment of children in practicum.
6. Summarize 2 activities for the child you see in practicum that families can carry- over in the home environment.
